In a result that defied national trends, local Conservatives made gains and won increased support across Bassetlaw.
The local Conservative team won 8 seats across the council, a gain of 3. The Ranskill ward was gained from Labour, whilst both the Everton ward and Clayworth ward were gained from independent Councillors.
In Retford, despite it being heavily targeted by Labour, the Conservatives held whilst the Lib Dems lost their sole seat. And in Worksop, local Conservatives won significant and increased amounts of support.
Conservative Group Leader, Lewis Stanniland, Councillor for Tuxford and Trent said: “We are quite pleased with that considering the losses that are happening nationally.
“We took two wards back that we lost in 2019 to the Independents, and picked one up from Labour in Ranskill.
“I think the Independents were basically Labour sympathisers so people chose to come back because they did not know what they voted for back in 2019.”
