Last month Cllr Denise Depledge announced that she would be standing down from representing the Sutton ward on Bassetlaw District Council due to her ill health.
Following the news of Cllr Depledge's resignation, Brendan Clarke-Smith MP (Member of Parliament for Bassetlaw) said:
"My main concern is for Denise’s health and I therefore hope she recovers from her treatment and is one day able to return to public life, and the communities she has served so well during her time in office.
"Whilst it would have been possible to have held on until the next set of district council elections in May 2023, she did not think it was right to take the salary when she would be unable to attend meetings or carry out the role to the high standards she has set herself.
"I know Denise would never let this happen, and therefore she has taken the principled stance to resign and give somebody else the chance to take on the role."
The Sutton ward has one District Councillor and covers the villages of Babworth, Barnby Moor, Sutton cum Lound, Lound, and Ranby.
Cllr Depledge has thanked those who have wished her well and added: "I'm very sad to be going, but residents need someone who can fight for them. And there's a lot happening in the ward."
